From Maine to Milan – Café Maud’s has it all!

One of Ireland’s best known ice cream brands, Maud’s, has a new flagship store in Belfast. Café Maud’s has just opened to tremendous success on the fashionable Lisburn Road, where its menu offers something new and completely unique on a road full of generic eateries. Emphasis is placed on simplicity and freshness in a concise yet well thought out menu. The sweet and savoury crepe menu is second to none in the city, and is made on their specially designed crepe iron station. If that doesn’t take your fancy, there’s always Maud’s best selling speciality scoop ice cream to enjoy in an ice cream sundae along with fresh fruit, sauce and cream. If that’s not enough to whet your appetite then check out the “Cold Stone Station” where your favourite ice cream can be mixed together with sauces and inclusions on a frozen marble slab to create your own special dessert.

What sets this store apart from the rest on the street is the premises itself. Following in the blueprint of the renowned Newcastle store, the entire shop front is glass, as much for the public to look in as for the patrons inside to watch the world go by. Those on the outside will be struck by the interior’s unique North Atlantic styling, evoking bright sunny days and picket fences, dangling lamps, old fashioned chalkboards and brown sandstone walling.

In contrast to this, the B45 display cabinets are the height of contemporary Italian chic and were specially commissioned to commemorate the 45th anniversary of Bocchini spa, designed by the world famous design house Pininfarina who also design for Ferrari. The cabinets are hand-built by Bocchini and are available for ice cream, cakes and pastries, chocolates and hot food.  The B45 display cabinets complement the retro feel of the whole shop whilst still featuring a touch of the 21st century with remote control hydraulic front glass. The Bocchini counter system also includes under counter refrigeration, integral sinks, garbage bins, coffee station and ambient storage. RSS also supplied the self service drinks multi deck, which was fitted in keeping with the rest of the shop.

Not only is this shop one of a kind in Belfast, it is one of a kind on the entire island! So come and join Andy and his staff for a flavour of Maine and Milan where it is always “La Dolce Vita”!

European Gelato Championships coming to Harrogate November 2011

On Wednesday November 2nd the first ever UK leg of the European Gelato Championships will take place at the Ice Cream Expo in Harrogate. This unique competition only runs once every three years so don’t miss your chance to win a trip to Berlin in October 2012 to compete in the Finals along with the winners from Italy, Spain, Germany, Austria, Holland, Slovenia, Greece and France. Competitors are required to bring 4L of toffee flavoured mix ready to freeze in a Telme Ecogel 20-60 vertical batch freezer at the show. The top six competitors will receive a “gold” medal and the top two winners will compete together in team UK at the final in Berlin. The overall winner will be crowned Gelato King or Queen of Europe and win a fantastic cruise around the Caribbean including flights to and from Miami. Equipment failure this summer? Don’t panic!

Although most of Europe shuts down for August, don’t panic if you have a problem with display cabinets, ice cream making equipment or shock and storage freezers.
